Hunt for a Cure was founded to help assist the Alzheimer's Association in its fundraising efforts throughout the year. Money raised at this event is donated to benefit the Alzheimer's Association - Greater Illinois Chapter, to assist them in the funding of research of this deadly disease. The Alzheimer's Association is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit donor-supported foundation.
This began as a vision I always had and finally in April 2011, by the support of my wonderful husband and family, I organized and held the first "Hunt for a Cure" for Alzheimer's Awareness. This cause is very near and dear to my heart, as I lost both of my grandmothers to this horrible disease. I knew that I wanted to help out in some way, but my financial means were limited and I felt that I was unable to donate enough money to make a difference. I began to realize how many people this disease really affects and that I had to do something to help raise money and awareness. I decided to hold something that everyone can come together and donate while doing something fun, and in the end all those small contributions will add up to make a larger contribution. Every little bit helps and is appreciated!
Many people ask me why I made it a scavenger hunt? I wanted something different instead of a typical race to raise money, because there are too many of those. I chose to do a scavenger hunt because it is not only physical, but mental too. Mental exercise is just as important as physical exercise in helping to prevent Alzheimer's and keeping your mind healthy. This is a digital scavenger hunt meets amazing race, where clues and tasks are given and each team takes pictures of the answers or tasks to be completed.
April 27, 2013 will be the third "Hunt for a Cure" so wear your running shoes, grab your team and come join us to make a difference and raise money for more research in finding the cause and cure of Alzheimer's!
